Install WPS Office on Ubuntu

WPS Office is a lightweight office suite which is developed by the Kingsoft team. This is the best alternative to Microsoft Office and is fully compatible with Microsoft Windows, Mac, Linux-based operating systems, and Android operating systems. WPS Office suite comes with four main tools: WPS Writer, WPS Presentation, WPS Spreadsheet, and PDF.

The basic version for personal use is free. A fully featured paid version for professionals is also available. 

1. Download WPS Office 

Download WPS Office for Linux from the official site. Download the Deb package. The binary package of WPS will be downloaded to the Download directory of your system.

2. Install WPS Office

Open the terminal and log in as a superuser and apply the below commands 

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y

cd Downloads

Run the following command to install the WPS Office package

sudo apt install ./wps-office_*_amd64.deb

Pop-up windows similar to the below screenshot will appear during installation. You need to accept the terms and conditions 


3. Open the WPS Office 

Go to the Application Menu and search for WPS. 

You will find three applications named WPS Writer, WPS spreadsheets, and WPS Presentation, which are the alternatives of MS Word, MS Powerpoint, and MS Excel respectively. Click on the desired application which you want to use. You will ask to accept the term and conditions when you will open the ant application the first time.

Uninstall WPS Office Linux

If you want to uninstall the WPS Office due to any reason. Apply the following command to remove the WPS Office completely.

sudo apt autoremove --purge wps-office
